Will she study?

Rita is over the moon today. She looks radiant and content. She is joyful and upbeat more than anything. She tip-toed and danced all her way from school towards her home – a clay hut on the bank of the river. Her school bag hangs loosely on her left shoulder, as if it’s empty and she could not feel its weight, though it was full of books.

When Phulwa-the gardener asked her the reason for her happiness, she told him that today was her last exam and all her papers have gone really well. Now her father, a farmer, would let her study further. She told that she wants to study a lot and become a scientist. Phulwa patted her on the back and congratulated her.

Rita went ahead whistling her way towards her home.

A hint of yellow is a joy forever

I walk past the empty lanes,
The gardens look deserted,
Not much to catch my eyes,
I search for a glint so bright,
Up on the wall a flower blooms,
And my eyes lit up to the view,
It’s a yellow bud, rose I guess,
So tiny but bright enough,
To light up the barren lanes,
Engulfing all gloomy hints.

It goes far beyond me

It goes far, far and far before me,
Above the waves and massive sea,
Never to return or pass my way,
And I have nothing left to do or say.

As it goes far enough to appear a dot,
Some strings buzz in the emtpy heart,
Streams of memories and times,
Flows, rattles and rhymes.

Sometimes destiny separates,
Creating an endless rift,
But those who leave a mark,
Will always lead our way,
And I keep standing and waving.

Birthday

Birthday is the most favourite day, isn’t it? We celebrate our birthday every year as one of our best days. We go out, have fun, dine and dance. Do we stop to think that this day is as important or perhaps more important for someone else too? Yes, for our mother. It’s the biggest day of her life as well, as she was re-born as a mother. It is truly said that a baby gives birth to a mother. Our birthday is equally special for her.

When a baby is born, it does something in the heart of the woman who gave birth. It’s not that the woman had all the motherly feelings in her heart just from the day she starts expecting. She might have them, but she may stay oblivious of them. The baby brings those feelings to the surface gradually after coming in this world.

When I had my daughter in October last year, I never thought I could change so much. I was just a girl with her own world, and then one fine day I was a mother. Needless to say, it’s a massive change. And this change takes time to find its place. I knew I loved her endlessly from the moment I saw her. But as postpartum hits, I was dealing with lot of mental pressure, anxiety, physical and emotional challenges that it took some time to finally come to terms with my own feelings. There is something indescribable in the joy of your baby’s smell when you lift her and try to cuddle. That moment changed everything. That moment gives power to all the mothers; the power that can make her conquer the world.

There was this tiny story I had read somewhere. It goes like (don’t remember the words exactly though, but enough to be shared, as it seems worth mentioning)- ‘It was mother’s birthday and she wanted to cook something to please herself. So she prepared her child’s favourite dish.’

This post is dedicated to all the wonderful ladies who nurture lives around them, in many ways.

Colors and more

Jessica woke up with the sound of tiny droplets on her window panes. She saw the clock hung on the wall of her room. It was 4 am, too early for her to wake up. But sleep eluded her eyes as the coldness in the weather filled her room and her heart. She grabbed her jacket lying on the chair nearby and wore it. Her heart was still yearning. Her five years long relationship with James was on the verge of ending.

She looked outside the window. The rain had eroded all the crops in the field nearby. She felt gloomy inside. Never did the rain make her feel so sad before. Perhaps one sees the world with the heart, and not just the eyes. She went back to her bed and curled inside her blanket.

It was not before 10 am that she was woken up by the chirping of birds on her window. She went to the window again to see the clouds. The rain had stopped and sunshine was spreading through the clouds. She spotted a rainbow in the clear sky. Her heart welled up and it showed in her eyes. All hope was not yet lost, or it never does.

Unstoppable she became

She changes sides and tries to sleep,
She takes a walk and hides to weep,
Oblivious of her inner storm,
She strolls past to re-gain her norm.
So much has passed in these days,
So much is passing in many ways,
Life ceased to charm and entice,
Anxiety just stole her spice.
She posed questions and queries,
To God and all those around,
Unnoticed, none were replied,
She kept quiet and stared ahead.
She walked, she ran, she panted, She stopped and caught her breath,
But never did she quit,
She looked for the other side, They say the tunnel is bright there,
It still seemed dark,
By now she had learnt to walk,
Unstoppable she became,
For her Sun rose for never to set.
